A successor has been announced to it’s SmartWatch Android smartwatch platform as Sony unveils the SmartWatch 2.
Much of the earlier complaints about the gadget have been addressed as Sony adds NFC to ease up the pairing and bumps up the screen size to 1.6″ and adds a slightly higher resolution at 220 x 176 pixels. The smartwatch 2 is now also rated for IP57 for water resistance and Sony claims that its improved battery life is the longest of any smartwatch. Even better the SmartWatch 2 now also has a standard micro USB slot.
No pricing yet but Sony is targeting a September release. Unfortunately, compatibility is still only with Android-only , with currently no official iOS support.
